New B.Sc Courses on Hospitality Administration


A Career in Hospitality Studies: the doorway to employment

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB is introducing In-House Courses in collaboration with renowned industry partners to increase the skill and employability of the young generation. One such partner is Zoom Enterprises Limited, which has joined hands with MAKAUT to introduce five innovative and job oriented Under Graduate (B.Sc.) courses in the field of Hospitality Administration and Management. 

Zoom Enterprises Limited has a large premises at  Salt Lake Sector V.

Admission

The admission will be through the Common Entrance Test (CET) of MAKAUT, the details of which is given in the University Website www.wbut.ac.in. 

The following  courses are introduced in collaboration between MAKAUT and Zoom Enterprises Limited:

B.Sc. in Hospitality Administration

This course provides the students with a fundamental knowledge about the principles of hospitality. The skills required by hospitality managers globally encompass operational as well as management levels. This course is designed to produce professional hospitality personnels who are equipped with the necessary expertise for the 21st century.

With a combination of theoretical, practical and real time experiences, this course provides students with an all-round education in this field.


B.Sc. in Hospitality and Catering Studies

Catering is an integral part of hospitality. This hospitality and catering course will cover the basics of hospitality operations as well as essentials of food production, nutrition, health and safety and other issues that commonly arise in the industry. 

While the course will include important theoretical concepts, there will be plenty of practical elements and the chance to gain lots of hands-on experience. Students will be prepared with knowledge, skills and experience for supervisory and management levels and will focus to a great extent on employability skills.



B.Sc. in International Hotel and Tourism and Administration

The hospitality industry is a truly global phenomenon which connects with the tourism industry on both domestic and international platforms.

Students who choose to study this degree should be interested in interacting with people from all walks of life from all over the world. They will be taught the details of the fast growing tourism markets and how they can provide the best services and the experiences for international as well as domestic travelers.


B.Sc. in Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management

With the growth of the allied industries of tourism and hospitality, domestic and international travelers and organisations are now recognising the possibilities of hosting events, conferences, meetings, symposiums and much more in a wide range of locations worldwide.

Students of this degree course will study relevant aspects of hospitality, tourism as well as the new and upcoming Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions  (MICE) industries with an emphasis on the needs of corporate travelers and how these are met by accommodation, food & beverage and facilities providers.

B.Sc. in Hotel, Catering and Aviation Studies

The tremendous boom in the travel and tourism industries has resulted in requirements for high professional standards in domestic and international travel, food and beverages and accommodation. These needs can only be met by expertly trained professionals.

In this degree course, the student will learn in details about hotel operations, guest services, catering services etc. They will also inculcate specialised skill sets required for aviation personnel such as communication, grooming, confidence and technical skills.

New Rounds of  CET, JEMAT

The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT),WB will again be conducting a series of entrance tests for admission to PG/UG in-house courses and in the affiliated colleges/institutes.

Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to

NON-AICTE Courses

A third round of Common Entrance Test (CET, Phase-III, 2019) for admission to non-AICTE courses in MAKAUT, WB and in the affiliated colleges will  be held on the 11th of August, 2019 from 10.30 AM. The University will publish the rank card and admission can be taken after centralized counselling. Online forms are available in the University website from 12.07.2019. Online Application is to be submitted through Website by 02.08.2019 up-to 5:00p.m.

The written test for Common Entrance Test (CET) will be conducted on General Aptitude. Written examination will be comprised of 50 questions (2 marks each) and will be of 90 minutes duration. The scheme of the examination is as follows:

ELIGIBILITY FOR CET - 2019
  1. The applicant having passed at the Higher Secondary Examination in the General or Vocational Stream under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination / Undergraduate Courses as prescribed from a recognized Board / University, respectively are eligible to apply.
  2. Candidates applying for admission in Group A should have English as one of the subjects at the 10+2 level.
  3. Candidates appearing for admission in Group B should have English and Mathematics/ Statistics / Business Mathematics / Informatics Practice / IT / Computer Science / Computer Application at the 10+2 level.
  4. Candidates applying for admission in Group C should have English, Physics, and Chemistry along with Mathematics or Biology at 10+2 level.
  5. Candidates applying for admission in Group D and E should have passed /appeared in 3 years Bachelor’s Degree course with one of the subjects as prescribed.

    Joint Entrance Management Aptitude Test (JEMAT)

    The 2nd phase of Joint Entrance Management Aptitude Test or JEMAT  Exam of this year will be held on the 17th of August, 2019 (11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.). Admission can be taken after Group Discussions, Personal Interviews (GD/PI) and centralized counseling. Online forms are available in the University website from 12.07.2019. Online Application is to be submitted through Website by 09.08.2019 up to 5:00p.m.

    The Joint Entrance Management Aptitude Test (JEMAT) is a state level eligibility test of the Govt. of W.B. conducted by the MAKAUT, WB. The Test is held every year for admission to the MBA/MHA/AICTE approved PG Diploma programmes offered by the Management Institutions of the State (both government and private). This test is conducted by MAKAUT on behalf of the State Government as per the guidelines framed by AICTE, in pursuance of the Supreme Court judgments and in terms of the policy framework laid down by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Colleges/Institutes can admit students from one national level test (CAT/MAT/XAT/CMAT) and the state level test (JEMAT) OR only from one national level test OR only from state level test. This is as per the Ministry of HRD guidelines.
    ELIGIBILITY
    The minimum qualification for admission to MBA/MHA/AICTE approved PG Diploma programmes is a Bachelor's degree in Arts/ Science/ Commerce/ Engineering/ Technology/Medical/Dental/Agriculture or other professional courses from recognized universities. The candidates who will appear in final examination (Graduation) to be held in 2019 may also apply. The Exam format is given below:

    Jal Shakti Abhiyan at MAKAUT on 22nd July 2019

    Save Water, Save Life

    India’s per capita water availability has fallen from 1,816 cubic metres in 2001 to 1,545 cubic metres in 2011. It is projected to decrease further to 1,345 cubic metres per capita per year by 2025. Half of India is water-stressed. The need is to start a jana andolan (mass movement) so that  water can be conserved for future generations. Thus a nationwide water conservation scheme was launched by the government of India which will be carried out through out this monsoon season.

    In accordance with the mandate of Government of India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), WB has participated in Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Celebration of Jal Diwas on the 22nd of July. The Central Government has directed all AICTE  approved institutions to do the same.
    Everybody is working on a war footing

    The climatic changes in India have resulted in a water crisis catastrophe.
    A spectrum of conscious steps are to be taken to overcome this perennial challenge. This issue needs to be addressed collectively and the University encourages its students to get       involved in such activities.

    Students are an integral part of the society and hence must understand the importance of water conservation. The Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) Campaign has already been launched by the Government of India and it is mandatory for the students of AICTE approved institutions to celebrate Jal Diwas on the 22nd of July, which is an integral part of this campaign. This will create an awareness among the students

    In MAKAUT plantation drive was carried out on the 22nd of July and the much awaited Rain Water Harvesting project has been initiated. To implement this project, roof top water harvesting will be done on the 1500 square meter Biotechnology Building roof. This will help the University to collect 90.2 lakh litres of water this monsoon. This water will be stored in a pond and excess water will be injected into the water table deep beneath the earth.

    In this way water conservation is being done in the lush green campus of Haringhata. Water is a limited and precious resource, whose conservation is critical for our environment. Salt water is plentiful while fresh water is scarce. But desalination is a costly process and cannot be afforded to be used for daily production of water. So water conservation should be an integral part of each and every human being's life. Students are the future of our society. So MAKAUT has taken a small step through its students towards a big leap forward and is the torchbearer in this regard.

    About Forensic Science

    Forensic Science is based on dealing with crime and criminals scientifically. Forensic Science is all about methodology and on the basis of the evidences acquired, conclusions are made by the Forensic Experts. This

With experience, professionals can earn minimum INR. 6 Lakhs to INR. 8 Lakhs per year and so on.
    To become a professional Forensic Scientist, one should have a Graduate or Master Degree in Forensic Science.

    In the financial world, risk management is 
    the process of identification, analysis and acceptance or mitigation of uncertainty in investment decisions. Essentially, risk management occurs when an investor or fund manager analyzes and attempts to quantify the potential for losses in an investment and then takes the appropriate action given his investment objectives and risk tolerance. Risks can also come from threats of project failures (at any phase in design, development, production etc.), legal liabilities, credit risk, accidents, natural causes and disasters, deliberate attack from an adversary, or events of uncertain or unpredictable root-cause. Thus Risk Management professionals have a wide field of work and can also act as consultants or start own initiatives.

    BBA in Business Analytics

    B.Sc in Multimedia, Animation & Graphic Design

    It is a modern course in computer applications designed to turn students into skilled professionals in Graphics Design, Animation and Multimedia. It integrates different aspects of 2D and 3D art, interactive media and animation. Hands-on training in modelling, design, texturing, animation, lighting and rendering for 3D design with different software tools are included in the course.     B.Sc in Robotics & 3D Printing



    Robotics and 3D printing is defined as a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Students will be trained on how to design products that will then be printed. This will help them learn about how prototypes can be made and also understand the career path The course is designed to impart knowledge and skills related to 3D printing technologies, selection of material and equipment and develop a product using this technique in Industry 4.0 environment.

    B.Sc in Forensic Science




    It involves the application of scientific knowledge to the investigation of crimes. Professionals in this discipline apply their knowledge of science to analyze the evidence found at a crime scene. An analysis could involve anything from an object at the crime scene, to soil, blood stains, saliva, body fluids, bones, fingerprints, DNA profiling, recovering data from computers, researching new techniques/ technology, etc. The Syllabus includes essential components such as Forensic Pathology, Psychiatry, Psychology, Forensic Medicine and Dentistry.

    M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering and Management

    It is an engineering stream related to management of industrial process. The course deals with understanding, development and implementation of systems involving human beings and other resources. The student will learn about the methods of optimum utilization of resources available by applying mathematical and engineering tools. The course includes: Operations Research, Management Science, Financial Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Management, Systems Engineering,Ergonomics, Process Engineering, Value Engineering and Quality Engineering and so on. 

     M.Tech. in Biotechnology

    It is a field in applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bio-processes in engineering, technology, medicine and other related fields. job opportunities are there in planning, production, management of bio-processing industries, biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies etc. 

     M.Tech in Bioinformatics

    It is the application of statistics and computer science in the field of molecular biology. The course provides competence in computational biology/bioinformatics by providing training in areas of molecular biology, information technology, statistics etc. The programme also leads to expertise in genomics, proteomics, protein engineering, metabolic pathway engineering the discovery of new drugs and vaccines, agro-biotechnology and so on.

    M.Tech in Microelectronics and VLSI Technology
    The course prepares the students to specialize in techniques of design, fabrication, and testing of Microelectronic devices, which qualifies them to perform varied operations involved in VLSI engineering. The students acquire skills required to integrate circuit design and those applicable to electronic system engineering. Candidates gain a threshold to examine the aspects related to the integration of system and study device properties making it a better platform to conduct research in the study of Electric System and Devices. Very Large-scale Integration (VLSI) is the process of creating an Integrated Circuit (IC) by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip.
